On Sunday 29th June 2014, four students from SSK represented the ESKU at the FEKO Junior National Championships in Nottingham. Club Captain Robert Oakley and his teammates Rhiannon Shipley, Joe Williams and Louis Powell brought back a haul of 12 trophies from the prestigeous tournament, which saw the best competitors not only from FEKO but Karate Wales and AMA as well.
In total the squad won 5 titles on their way to 6 GOLDS, 5 SILVER and 1 BRONZE! Rob Oakley came third in the Male 13-14yrs Under 55Kg Kumite. Rhiannon Shipley won GOLD to become the National Female Kumite Champion at Under 55Kg in the 13-14yrs event and then added that to three impressive second place trophies in the Team Kata and two Female Team Kumite events.
Joe Williams won GOLD to become the National Male Kata Champion in the 10-12yrs up to 4th Kyu event and was also present in the Kata Team with Rhiannon. Louis Powell gained TWO National Titles after securing wins in both 8-9yrs Kata and 8-9yrs Kumite events. Louis and Joe also became the National Pairs Kata Champions in the Under 12ys graded event to complete a fantastic day for all concerned.
England Squad Call Up
Louis Powell and Rhiannon Shipley‘s recent good form has earned them their first ENGLAND SQUAD CALL-UP. They will be traveling with the FEKO England Squad to Ireland to compete in the Carlow International Open in October.
