A few weeks ago, we posted the exciting news about the Olympic inspired Wombourne Games that will be held on the will be held on the 13th and 14 July 2012.
We now have all the event information:
Swimming competitions
• Under 10s 1 length(25m) race
• Under 10s relay (4 swimmers 1 length each)
• Under 12s 1 length(25m) race
• Under 12s relay (4 swimmers 1 length each)
• Under 14s 2 length(50m) race
• Under 14s relay (4 swimmers 1 length each)

Art Competition
Competition brief:
To create a piece of artwork on the theme of the Olympic Games/The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2012.
Categories:
There will be four entry categories for this competition. For each category there will be a Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal awarded. Each team can submit a total of 5 entries per category.
• Under 11’s • Aged 15 – 19 year olds.
• Aged 11 – 14 year olds. • Adults
The following criteria apply.
• The theme of ‘The Wombourne Games’ is the Olympics and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2012 so artwork must link to the theme.
• Art exhibits can be either 2D or 3D and can be any visual art form.
Aquathlon Competition
Competition brief:
The Aquathlon is a swim/run event. There is no gap between the two disciplines – competitors exit the water and start their run. The area between the swim and the run is referred to as transition. This is where the competitors get ready for the run. Competitors cannot leave transition/start the run unless their shoes are on and their top is covered. For males
this means they must wear a t-shirt. For females – they may run in their swim suit or put on a t-shirt over their costumes.
The swimmers start in the water. There is no diving. They complete their required number of lengths, jump out, WALK to transition, put on their trainers and top and run to the finish.
Categories:
There will be two entry categories for this competition. For each category there will be a Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal awarded. Each team can enter 1 person per category.
• 14 yrs and under – Swim of 2 lengths followed by a run of 1 lap of the field.
• 15 yrs and over – Swim of 4 lengths followed by a run of 2 laps of the field.
Cake Decorating Competition
This is a fantastic and exciting competition open to members of all teams engaged in The Wombourne Games inter-generational community event to be held on Saturday 14th
July 2012 at Wombourne Library, Church Road , Wombourne , WV5 9EZ .
Competition brief:
To decorate a cake on the theme of the Olympic Games/The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2012.
Categories:
There will be four entry categories for this competition. For each category there will be a Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal awarded. Each team can submit a total of 5 entries per category.
• Under 11’s • Aged 15 – 19 year olds.
• Aged 11 – 14 year olds. • Adults

• The theme of ‘The Wombourne Games’ is the Olympics and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2012 so the cake decoration must link to the theme.
• Cake shape, size, type etc is open to entrant’s choice. It is the decoration which is being judged, not the cake itself.
Wombourne’s Choir competition
Competition brief:
This competition event is a ‘Choir event’ open to all school teams, all ages, genders and abilities. This is a real opportunity for you to show off your talent and for us, as a community, to uncover the ‘hidden gems’ of Wombourne! Each school team can enter a pupil choir which will compete against a Wombourne all stars adult choir made up from parents and people within the community.
Pupil choirs’ from each school will work with Mr Whitmore from Ounsdale High School in the weeks leading up to the event as well as competing against each other on the day.
The adult choir will all collectively meet with Mr Whitmore on the day and learn the songs together. After which, they will compete against the various school choirs. A combined choir will perform on the outdoor stage during the evening’s closing ceremony.
The following criteria apply.
• Each school can enter a pupil choir from any age range and prepare a programme 10 minutes in length.
• Pupil choirs will work with Mr Whitmore in school at arranged times leading up to the event (if he is required).
• Adult singers need no qualifications only enthusiasm!
On the competition day – Saturday 14th July:
• The Adult choir will all meet to learn and rehearse songs with Mr Whitmore between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
• All choirs will perform and compete for a medal place between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
Computer Games competition
Competition brief:
These two computer games competition events are open to an any age, any gender, individuals from each team. Each team can put forward 1 competitor for each game competition. These tournaments will be organised into first round games, followed by quarter finals, semi finals and finals which will include 3rd and 4th places. The top three places will secure the bronze, silver and gold awards.
1. FIFA 2012 Tournament (on the XBOX 360) – 20 minutes per game.
2. Singing Tournament using the Singstar Rocks/Legends – each competitor will perform at least one song, 5 minutes per song.
Categories:
• FIFA Tournament – One individual entry per team, any age, any gender.
• Singstar Tournament – One individual entry per team, any age, any gender.
Timings for both categories:
1. First rounds – 11.30am – 1.50pm.
2. Quarter finals – 2.10pm – 3.10pm.
3. Semi finals – 3.30pm – 4.10pm.
4. Final – 3.10pm – 4.30pm.
Fishing competition
Competition brief:
This competition event is open to two groups – under 11’s and under 16’s. All under 11’s must be accompanied by an adult who will be able to set up the equipment and assist to land and unhook the fish. 11-16’s will be able to fish solo. The event will take place on Wombourne Canal . Each team can put forward a maximum of 2 entrants for this event.
There will be a bronze, silver and gold award for each category, awarded based on the weight of fish caught. Each entrant will need to pay £2.50 on arrival at the event, to cover licence costs.

• Under 11’s – years 5 and 6.
• 11 – 16 yr olds.
Flower arranging competition
This is a fantastic and exciting competition open to members of all teams engaged in The Wombourne Games inter-generational community event to be held on Saturday 14th
July 2012 at Wombourne Library, Church Road , Wombourne , WV5 9EZ .
Competition brief:
To create a flower arrangement on the theme of the Olympic Games/The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2012.
Categories:
There will be four entry categories for this competition. For each category there will be a Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal awarded. Each team can submit a total of 5 entries per category.
• Under 11’s • Aged 15 – 19 year olds.
• Aged 11 – 14 year olds. • Adults

7 a-side football competition
Competition brief:
This competition event is open to year 5 and 6 mixed boy and girl teams. Each team can put forward a squad of between the minimum of 7 and maximum of 11 players, from which up to 4 repeated/roll on – off subs can be used. Each game will last for 20 minutes, 10 minutes each way. A size 4 ball will be used and there will be no off side rules. Decisions by event
leaders on and off the pitch will be final and upheld, there will be no appeals. Dependent upon number of teams entered in total, the format will either be straight knock-out or mini-league with the two top teams going through to a final game and a third and fourth place play off for the bronze medal award. Following receipt and organisation of team entry form,
further details to confirm the format will be sent out to each team.

• Under 11’s only – years 5 and 6.
Great Wombourne Bake-off
This is a fantastic and exciting competition open to members of all teams engaged in The Wombourne Games inter-generational community event to be held on Saturday 14th
July 2012 between 11.30am and 2.30pm.
Competition brief:
This competition event is open to an any age, any gender, individual from each team. Each team can put forward 1 competitor who wishes to take part in this competition. The competition will consist of two parts and entrants must take part in both parts.
Part 1 – 11.30pm – 12.00pm: ‘The Technical Challenge’. Entrants must make their ‘technical challenge’ product at home and bring it on the 14th July between 11.30am and 12.00pm. The technical challenge will be to make a cheese and onion quiche using a specific recipe which will be provided. Marks out of 10 will be awarded for appearance, flavour and texture.
(30 marks in total)
Part 2 – 12.00pm – 2.30pm: ‘The Olympic Cupcake Challenge’. Entrants will be then required to make a batch of 10 decorated cupcakes, with an Olympic theme. Entrants can choose their own flavour combinations and their own recipe and should present their cupcakes imaginatively. Marks out of 10 will be awarded for originality/creativity, appearance, flavour and texture. (40 marks in total)
Adults community Netball competition
Competition brief:
This competition event is open to a team of Adults and can be mixed female and male teams. Each team can put forward a team of between the minimum of 7 and maximum of 11 players, from which up to 4 reserves can be used. Dependent on number of entries, each game will last for between 15 minutes (7.5 minutes each way) and 30 minutes (15 minutes each way). Decisions by event leaders on and off the court will be final and upheld, there will be no appeals. Dependent upon number of teams entered in total, the format will either be straight knock-out or mini-league with the two top teams going through to a final game and a third and fourth place play off for the bronze medal award. Following receipt and organisation of team entry form, further details to confirm the format and the times per game will be sent out to each team.The event will take place on: Saturday 14th July

Times: between 11.30am and 1.30pm – Actual game times for each team to be confirmed following organisation of number of team entries.
Patchwork Quilt Block Competition
This is a fantastic and exciting competition open to members of all teams engaged in The Wombourne Games inter-generational community event to be held on Saturday 14th July 2012 at Wombourne Library, Church Road , Wombourne , WV5 9EZ .
Competition brief:
To create a 12 inch square patchwork quilt block on the theme of the Olympic Games/The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2012.
Categories:
There will be four entry categories for this competition. For each category there will be a Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal awarded. Each team can submit a total of 5 entries per category.

Pool competition
This is a fantastic and exciting competition open to members of all teams engaged in The Wombourne Games inter-generational community event to be held on Saturday 14th July 2012 between 11.30am and 6.45pm at Wombourne Library, Church Road , Wombourne , WV5 9EZ .
Competition brief:
This competition event is open to anyone over the age of 10. Each team can put forward between 1 and 3 individuals who wish to take part in this competition. Each game across each of the categories will consist of a single frame. Decisions by the event leader will be final and upheld, there will be no appeals.

• Round 1 – first round games.
• Round 2 – second round games.
• Round 3 – Third round games.
• Quarter finals
• Semi Finals.
• 3rdplace play off. (For the Bronze medal)
• Final. (For the Silver and Gold Medals)
The Quadathlon
Competition brief: This competition event requires each team to put forward 1 mixed age team of 4 athletes. Athletes can be male or female but there must be a representative from each age group listed below in each team. This event will take place outdoors, weather permitting, although events have been adjusted to be accommodated indoors should we need to do so.
Results from all four events will be compiled, using an age related and multi event scoring system. The top three winning teams will be awarded the Bronze, Silver and Gold medals.

The following criteria apply.
• Each team must comprise of a team 4 athletes and can be mixed gender groups.
• There must be 1 representative from each of the following age groups in your team.
1. Under 11 years old x 1 member
2. 11 – 15 years old x 1 member
3. 16 – 19 years old x 1 member.
4. Over 19 years old x 1 member.
• Teams must arrive already in kit suitable for the activities.
Table Tennis competition
Competition brief: This competition event is open to three entry categories as detailed below. Each team can put forward between 1 and 2 individuals per category who wish to take part in this competition and initial timings for each category are given below. Each category will consist of heats and finals to decide category winners. Decisions by the event leader will be final and upheld, there will be no appeals.
Categories:
• Under 12’s. 11.30am – 1.30pm
• 13 – 16yr olds. 1.30pm – 3.30pm
• Over 16’s and adults. 3.30pm – 5.30pm.
• Semis/Finals for each category. 5.30pm – 6.30pm (To decide the Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal winners for each category. Both losing semi-finalists in each category will be awarded a bronze medal)
Wombourne’s Got Talent Competition
This is a fantastic and exciting competition open to members of all teams engaged in The Wombourne Games inter-generational community event to be held on Saturday 14th July 2012 between 11.30am and 5.30pm.
Competition brief:
This competition event is a ‘Talent Show’ open to all ages, genders and abilities. This is a real opportunity for you to show off your talent and for us, as a community, to uncover the ‘hidden gems’ of Wombourne! There will be elected time slots during the day for each act and the best 6 acts of the day will perform on the outdoor stage during the evening’s closing
ceremony. These performances will then be judged and the overall medal winners will be announced at the end of the night.
Categories:
Entrants will be given an elected time slot to perform during the day, details of which will be sent out to all Team Leaders in advance. There will be Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals awarded to the top three winning acts.
The following criteria apply.
• The maximum number of acts entered per team is 3.
• The maximum number of people per act is 30
• Talent Show Acts can be performed by individual team members or a group of members from the team.
• Each act should prepare a performance of between 1 and 3 minutes
• Any music required for an act needs to be given to Sarah Miller (event organiser) the week before the games. It should be on a memory stick, with the file clearly labelled with song and act which can be transferred to computer.
Also to note:
There will be additional competition events which people can enter on the day; they do not need to sign up for them in advance.
